This is possible by measuring the difference between impact pressure and static pressure.</p> <p><A HREF="http://www.torbar.co.uk">Pitot tubes</a> have been used in <A HREF="http://www.torbar.co.uk/flow.html">flow measurement</a> for years. Conventional pitot tubes sense velocity pressure at only one point in the flowing stream. Therefore a series of measurements must be taken across the stream to obtain a meaningful <A HREF="http://www.torbar.co.uk/averaging.html">average flow measurement</a> rate.</p> <p>Pitot tubes consists of two concentric tubes, the inner tube being the impact pressure tube whose opening faces directly into the stream to measure the impact pressure. The outer tube consists of one or more rows of small holes on the circumference to measure the static pressure.
